Thanks in large part to Michelle Obama’s Let’s Move! campaign, the FDA has announced an overhaul of food labels. Among the most controversial elements of the new labels is the requirement that ‘added sugar’ be included. The Sugar Association boldly argues that the label ruling ‘could actually deter us from our shared goal of a healthier America.’ Public health experts believe the new labels will reduce overall sugar consumption, helping to address the fact that Americans now eat twice as much sugar as recommended for good health.
